The „Premio San Giovanni Paolo II” Award has been established to promote knowledge of the thoughts and activities of Saint John Paul II and his impact on the life of the Catholic Church and various social, cultural, societal, political and economic fields. It is awarded by the Vatican’s John Paul II Foundation (FGP2), based in Rome, at least every two years.
The award is international in nature and honors individuals and institutions that excel in scientific, artistic, cultural, educational and social work, promoting the values and ideas present, important and promoted by John Paul II.
The procedures for the award are strictly defined by the regulations. The jury, consisting of ex officio members and elected members, is responsible for selecting the laureate. The selection process for the candidates includes a first vetting phase and a subsequent decision-making phase, and each jury member may propose one or two candidates.
The prize of the „Premio San Giovanni Paolo II” is €30,000, although the amount may be modified in accordance with the decision of the Board of Directors of the Vatican’s John Paul II Foundation (FGP2). The winner may be an individual, a legal entity or an organizational unit without legal personality, which in its work reflects and promotes the ideas and teachings of John Paul II.
The announcement of the result and the award ceremony are published on the website of the Giovanni Paolo II Foundation and on social media. After the selection of the laureate, the Board of Directors of the Vatican’s John Paul II Foundation (FGP2) determines the details of the time, place and form of the award presentation.
The „Premio San Giovanni Paolo II” award is a unique recognition of those who, in their work, continue the spiritual and scientific heritage of Saint John Paul II, promoting his ideas internationally thanks to which they contribute to the development of the human family.
John Paul II Justice and Peace Centre (JPIIJPC) was established in 2007 to respond to the initiatives of the St. John Paul II „Ecclesia in Africa”. The Centre was named after John Paul II to keep alive the teaching of our late Holy Father who so tirelessly preached the Gospel call of peace and justice, especially in his „Ecclesia in Africa” document after the First African Synod 1994.
